  4. A Valentine’s Day Story

Community Health and Development Program (CHDP) is very different from the clinical setting. During our observation, we had to walk for 30-40 minutes under the sun, on a muddy and rocky road just to reach the family of the PWD. Not to mention that prior to that, we also took a long tricycle ride. The interns disseminated their home program for a child with cerebral palsy. I could see that the mom was very motivated to help his son and kept asking questions. I could also feel that she was glad that we came. It brings you to the realization that there are indeed tons and tons of patients in need for therapy, even more from the patients whom you just see in the clinics. These are the people who live in the far flunked areas and who can’t afford to travel all the time and get therapy. It’s a very fulfilling experience because despite the long walk, you know that you were able to help someone in your own way. You will really feel the importance for this because there are still a lot of people who are not informed about the conditions of their family members and have wrong notions about them. It’s an advocacy. You inform these communities, make them more aware, give help for those who fail to obtain it. The thing I liked the best is the people in the community were very hospitable. They even feed you with the little resources that they have. It was the most memorable observation that I have so far and I’m sure that I got a lot from it!

  8. This was drawn by a 12 year old child who has Apraxia whom I observed in CTS Pedia today. (Today was actually my second time observing her.) After asking the child to draw some pictures, the intern included me in the therapy session and asked her to draw me. Then they practiced saying my name. She was stimulable to visual cues. I’m really glad that I got to keep this drawing of hers!
